June 5th - Wandering Through Germany

Saturday, June 5th
Germany

Today we decided to just wander on our way to the next place. We picked
up a brochure at our hotel that showed Chinese figures at a museum.
We saw that it was in the general direction of where we were going, so
we set our course for the Museum. It turned out to be a Model Train
Museum. Okay - I know what you are thinking - Boring. But wait - that
was what I thought at first, also. It turned out to be really
fascinating. The first room had a model train system set up of the
entire area (similar to one of our counties). Everything was to scale,
and all of the houses were exactly as they would appear in real life.
I told Lonnie that I bet they took satellite photos and set it up from
them. Sure enough, we found out later that is exactly what they were
doing! There were people out, cars on the road - even an accident was
portrayed with blue flashing lights on the police cars. This particular
model was the size of a full basketball court (or larger). I had never
seen anything like it. And, all of the trains were actually working -
and working properly! (at all of the Toy Museums we have been to, the
trains have been broken). That was just Exhibition Hall A. There were
also Exhibition Halls B-F. One of them had Amerika. They portray Mt.
Rushmore with the correct presidents, but have added Clinton and Obama
to it! There were larger trains in one of the Halls. The Chinese
Exhibition was in one of the halls, showing the Terracotta Figures.
Each Exhibition Hall was huge! There were also some toys and dolls
displayed in one of the rooms. It turned out to be really fascinating,
and we spent quite a bit of time there.

Then it was on to our destination, via the backroads. We were in
search of rocks. More about that on June 6th blog.
